SEND
At Rickley Park Primary School, we believe early identification and support is vital in supporting all our pupils. Milton Keynes Council has created a document of possible support that school’s can put in place to meet your child’s needs - Ordinarily Available Provision School Age.pdf
If you have any queries relating to your child’s needs, your first point of contact will be their class teacher who will know your child best. Please see our school’s flowchart on identifying SEND needs for further information.

At Rickley Park, we are passionate about supporting children’s speech and language development. Our school is supported by a highly skilled Speech and Language Lead who has completed the ELKLAN 5–11 course and is a Higher-Level Communication Practitioner. Alongside this, we have an additional two teaching assistants who are ELKLAN trained, enabling them to deliver high-quality communication support across the school.
The Speech and Language Lead works closely with class teachers when a child may benefit from further assessments and support, using tools such as WELLCOMM, phonic screening, and other relevant screening programmes. Next steps are shared with staff and, where appropriate, with parents to ensure consistent support. Regular targeted interventions take place and are reviewed every half term to monitor progress.
In addition, our school’s Speech and Language Lead and SENDCo meets with Laura Black, our IFtL Speech Therapist, every half term to discuss children, gather new strategies, request further assessments, and remain updated on current assessment approaches. Information about Trust-wide speech and language support can also be found under the Inclusion tab of our website.
Milton Keynes Council has created a Local Offer of support available to families. This includes parental workshops, opportunities to talk to specialist and information about activities happening in MK. Please access this support via the website: Milton Keynes City Council
For further support, the SENDIAS website is designed to provide SEND information, advice and support services for young people as well as their parents and carers.

As a school, we are also working with the Parents and Carers Alliance (PACA)
PACA is an independent forum for parent carers of children and young people with disabilities or additional needs who live in Milton Keynes.
We share our experiences with the SEND Team as an independent voice representing what matters to families in MK. We do this by taking an active role in meetings such as the Short Breaks Steering Group, Local Offer Group and the SEND Strategic Partnership Board.
If you are a parent and would like to join PACA MK, or would like to know more about us, please visit PACA MK

Rickley Robins
Our Communication and Interaction additional provision is called Rickley Robins. The provision provides specialist support for students with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), including those on the autism spectrum. We provide a neuro-affirming environment where students can access a tailored curriculum (Bespoke Blossom Curriculum), designed to build social confidence, emotional regulation, and independent functional skills.
By combining expert staff, low-arousal learning spaces, and collaborative therapeutic approaches, we ensure every student has the tools to express themselves and connect with the world around them. Our goal is to remove barriers to learning and empower students to achieve their full potential in a supportive, inclusive community.

Mrs Rioch and Mrs Dennis work full-time in Rickley Robins. They both thoroughly enjoy working with the pupils in the provision and watching them progress and learn at their own pace.
Rickley Robins is based in two classrooms. We use one room for learning and group work and the other room is our ‘calming’ room where we support children to self-regulate when they are experiencing signs of anxiety.
We have a range of sensory lights to make the room a more calming space for the children to be, along with a large ball pit and soft play equipment for the children to burn off some of their energy!
Learning Lounge
In the learning lounge, we believe that strong social, emotional, and mental health is the foundation for a happy, independent life. Our specialist provision offers a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where every child is respected, listened to, and valued. By focusing on 'the need behind the behaviour,' we provide trauma-perceptive support and small-class settings to help pupils build resilience, manage their emotions, and unlock their full academic potential.

Miss Hasie leads the provision with support from Mrs Dempsey.
Every morning the children sit together and discuss their feelings using Zones of Regulations. The children use a range of resources to help them recognise the emotions they are experiencing.

The Learning Lounge has individual work stations for the children to access their work in a calm and quiet space with little distractions. There is also a thinking area where they are encouraged to go to support self-regulation.

Every child in this provision has a personalised timetable and individual resources for them to use throughout the day .
We have created a bespoke curriculum to meet the needs of our learners with complex additional needs. We believe that every learner, no matter where they are on their learning journey, should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. Our Blossom Curriculum ensures a “can do” approach that focuses on our learners’ strengths and the attributes that make them unique.
We have high aspirations for our children and wish to embed skills and knowledge that enables them to be independent, safe, responsible and successful communicators as adults. Families and professionals will play an integral part in ensuring the curriculum offer is individualised, aspirational and enabling.
Our Blossom Curriculum will:
- Develop a deeper understanding of learning pathways and how individuals will navigate the curriculum differently to achieve their own aspirations
- Build a picture of learner’s strengths, understand their engagement profile and showcase their achievements
- Ensure we work collaboratively with our families to set ambitious targets that can be achieved through small-step progression
- Prioritise play and functional skills in preparation for adulthood so that learners are confident accessing the wider world with a level of independence
- Provide an evidence-based inquiry approach to ensure a robust assessment of learning which can be reflected upon trust-wide
To ensure our pupils learn the most effective way we have four branches we choose to deliver a bespoke curriculum to meet pupils individual needs.
The Green branch – a highly interactive offer focused on early development skills
The Yellow branch – a pre-formal thematic offer focused on pre-subject skills
The Orange branch – a semi-formal offer taught through a thematic approach in an adaptive environment focused on subject specific skills
The Red branch – a blend of the Blossom curriculum and National Curriculum taught focusing on age related subject specific skills whilst working collaboratively with peers.
