RE at Rickley Park
Intent
At Rickley Park our values are at the heart of everything that we offer. It is our intent that our curriculum allows our children to develop these core values in all they do. Through following the MK syllabus, teaching at Rickley Park allows children to discover and gain an insight into religions within the world that we live. We see the teaching of R.E. as vital for children to understand other people’s beliefs and make connections between their own values. RE lessons, taught through KAPOW, will build upon prior learning and develop skills year upon year. RE also contributes to our childrens’ personal development and wellbeing and we aim to promote mutual respect and tolerance in society.

How You Can Support Your Child at Home
Parents and carers play an important role in supporting children’s learning in Religious Education (RE). RE helps children understand different beliefs, values, and cultures, and encourages respect and thoughtful discussion.
Here are some simple ways you can support your child at home.
-Talk About Beliefs and Values
- Encourage your child to talk about what they have learned in RE lessons.
- Ask open questions such as:
- What did you learn about today?
- Why is this important to people?
- Share your own values and experiences in an age-appropriate way.
-Encourage Respect and Curiosity
- Talk positively about different religions and cultures.
- Encourage your child to ask questions and be curious about the world.
Help them understand that people can believe different things and still be respectful and kind to one another.
-Celebrate and Explore Festivals
- Talk about religious festivals as they happen throughout the year.
- If appropriate, take part in community celebrations or events.
- Compare similarities and differences between celebrations your family may observe and those learned about at school.-
-Read and Share Stories
- Read stories from different religions and cultures together.
- Discuss the messages or morals in the stories.
- Use storybooks, children’s Bibles, or library resources
Parents can withdraw their child from some or all of religious education (RE) lessons in primary schools. This right is protected under the education act 1996 and applies to all maintained schools, academies, and free schools in England. Before making a decision, parents should consider the purpose of RE, which is to explore different religious and non religious world views , and to help children develop understanding, respect, and critical thinking skills. Parents should contact the school, submit a formal request, and agree on arrangements on how their child's time will be managed during RE lessons. Schools have a duty to supervise students who are withdrawn from RE, but they are not required to provide additional teaching.
