Geography at Rickley Park

At Rickley Park Primary School, we believe that Geography should be a key element in the children understanding the world around us. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum with a focus on knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Geography is an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills. Therefore, at Rickley Park Primary School we develop mapping skills alongside investigation skills and knowledge. The main areas we teach are:

How can I support learning at home?

At home, please feel free to support learning by researching any of these areas and discussing them. We would love children to become keen researchers so allow children to look at pictures of different places and holiday destinations. Allowing the children to actively participate in planning trips around the UK or the world will develop their confidence in Geography. Also, allow children to look at sat nav, google earth and play online Geography games such as wordwall.
