Phonics

Phonics - Nursery
At Rickley Park School, we begin to expose the children in Nursery to pre-phonics skills that will help them access our literacy programme in Foundation. These are:
  • Environmental sounds
  • Instrumental sounds
  • Body percussion
  • Rhythm and rhyme
  • Alliteration
  • Voice sounds
  • Oral blending and segmenting
For more information on what this may look like for your child, please visit our Rickley Park Youtube page where you can find a pre-phonics in nursery video created by our school phonics lead Mrs Cole:
Phonics - Primary
Once the children have acquired these pre phonics skills, you will see that they become more curious about letters and the sounds that they make. At Rickley Park Primary School, we follow the systematic synthetic phonics programme Read Write Inc (RWI). This literacy programme ensures all children learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling.

Videos

Please see below for videos that Mrs Cole has created, to help explain how our Read Write Inc. lessons are taught and what to expect at each stage of your child’s reading journey.
